- Nearly everyone will watch a music video, but they will all be different depending on genre and the age group that person is in and their personal taste in music. people watch music videos in order to see the story behind the song they have listened to as well as to support the band/artist that has produced the music video, to help it go viral so other people around the world are able to see it.
Narrative
- Most music videos will have a story behind them to show the fans what that band/artist song was about and what it meant and represented about them. Typically the story will mostly concentrate on one aspect of the song, which is mostly whats said in the chorus or part of the lyrics to help relate to the song. Sometimes the story behind a song can have a different turn and still relate to the song but be about something completely different to that you may of thought the song was about for e.g A fast high up beat song might actually have a sad story being it which when you would usually except something happy to go with that song. Another example would be the music video for the song Radioactive by Imagine dragons, in this music video we are presented with a parody of illegal dog fighting where as the dogs have been replaced with stuff toys. We are also shown people betting on these fights and seeing the losers of the fights going through the trap door and falling into what appears to be a dungeon underneath the illegal fighting. We also see the band is trapped in this dungeon as the music video goes on with this mysterious girl who brings a contester to fight and wins she frees the band. In some ways the music video does relate to the song through some lyrics as 'checking out on the prison bus' this relates to why there in a dungeon. But other aspects of the music video do not relate to the song which makes the music video strange and different, and this is shown with the stuffed toys fighting.
Performance
- Commonly in most music videos you will see the band/artist perform the song whether the whole music video is about them or you see brief shots of them performing from time to time. Though in some cases you won't see the artist/band perform at all in the music video to help the viewers to focus more on the backstory of the song then the person performing it. For example Martin Garrix song Don't look down shows no artist or band performing the song and completely focuses on the story following the song, which is a bored employee see's a man who is handsome and decides to get his attention so he will like her so she changes her outfit multiple times and does different things to just be rejected by him again and then decides to be herself but once again gets rejected but then meets someone who is like her.
